Pastor’s Notes Hebrews 2:3
“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;”
Hebrews 2:3
Hebrews 2:3
Salvation is communicated from Genesis to Revelation and in every book of the Bible in between. The Gospel truth of salvation from sin and Hell is stated many times throughout the Scriptures by prophets, apostles, angels, and by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
Salvation is complete forgiveness of sins. Saved people are no longer under the condemnation of their holy God. Salvation grants God’s full pardon and credits the perfect righteousness of the Lord Jesus to the sinner. Salvation reconciles erring sinners with their God adopts them into His family, and assures them of a home in Heaven for all eternity.
Salvation is confirmed in many Bible passages and by many witnesses. When Jesus cried “It is finished” just before His death on the cross, He signified that salvation had been accomplished. The soldiers and disciples witnessed the empty tomb from which Jesus arose. Dozens and even hundreds of people saw the resurrected Jesus. Signs, wonders, and the Holy Spirit have attested to the truth of salvation; and many millions have witnessed the transforming power of salvation in their lives. Salvation is costless to all who come to Christ in faith because Christ’s work at Calvary satisfies God’s holiness and justice. But saving faith is more than the belief that God exists. Humility and submission to God are part of the
repentance toward God and the obedience to the Gospel that comes with salvation.
Salvation is by Christ alone. It is impossible to perfectly obey the Old Testament Law that God gave, and keeping it can’t save us anyway. Galatians 3:24-25 tells us God gave His law to lead sinners to Christ for salvation. Salvation is commanded. We cannot escape God’s judgment of Hell for our sins if we neglect His great Gospel plan of salvation through Jesus Christ!
