Pastor’s Notes Isaiah 55:7

“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”

Isaiah 55:7

Isaiah 55:7

One man said: “Isaiah 55 is more a sermon than a prophecy where God exhorts his people to draw near to him as he confirms the faithfulness of His word.” The opening verse states: “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, to buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”

The invitation is extended to all who are spiritually thirsty and hungry. The picture is of physical thirst and hunger but the application is of a clear spiritual truth. Jesus said: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.” (Revelation 21:6).

Spiritual life, eternal life, is the free gift of God it has been pre-purchased with the blood of Jesus. No wonder Isaiah writes: “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call you upon him while he is near.” (v6). This is in the first instance written to Israel, it is a warning for them not to ignore the message of salvation. This great invitation concerns the Jews during the tribulation time, the good news is, sinners who repent and in faith turn to God will find mercy.  Ungodly men, be they Jews or Gentiles are called to repentance. “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” This great invitation concerns the Jews but not them only, all people who would be saved should heed this Godly advice and turn to Jesus for the salvation of their soul.
