Pastor’s Notes Ephesians 6:13
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:13
Ephesians 6:13
The Apostle Paul had founded the church at Ephesus and wrote the epistle to them from prison in Rome about 44AD. Paul has much to say about the church. The last 3 chapters are quite practical, speaking of the Christian walk, and in chapter 6 we find the principle of putting on the spiritual armour of God.
Paul writes: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” (v10). That word strong speaks of being empowered and the source of that power is the Lord, it is His power which strengthens us. Then in v11 comes the admonition: “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Then Paul reminds us that the battle every Christian faces is not physical but spiritual, it is a battle against spiritual wickedness, against the works of the Devil. It seems clearly implied that satanic influence and the working of high-level demonic spirits is being applied against our leaders, not just in churches but in government also. No wonder we are advised to pray for our leaders. (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
Paul’s description of the complexity of Satan’s domain in v12 suggest he is well organized in his evil ways, no wonder we are called upon to put on the whole armour of God in order to withstand the wiles of the Devil. The word withstand in v13 speaks of resisting against attack and that is what we must do by putting on the whole armour of God as described by Paul in the following verses. We must not forget the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
